2D Animation - Disconnected, BSc Multimedia Thesis, DCU, 2018
Disconnected is a short 2D animation produced as part of my 2018, BSc Multimedia dissertation, in DCU. Along with 4 other people, we created it by means of researching the process of producing a short film animation. We wanted to explore areas such as storytelling, graphic design, character rigging, digital animation, music production, and audio engineering.
Our film deals with themes of technological determinism and escapism, and critiques contemporary events such as the plans to colonise Mars. It is a pessimistic piece, which takes a negative outlook on how one might deal with the feelings of isolation that may come from residing on a small colony, away from our natural habitat. We wanted to create a piece which would have a reflective and ambient mood to it, but that would culminate in a melancholic and thought-provoking ending. We also wanted to convey information to the viewer primarily through visuals and music, without the use of dialogue.
My role in this project was producing the illustrative backgrounds and characters.
